Investment or Hyperspeed Electronic Poker?
This linked article by Michael Wellman, published June 14, 2013, reminded me of a quotation from Alvin Toffler's Revolutionary Wealth, published 7 years ago. The article talks about millisecond trading and price disparities across markets, and it mentions a study that found such trading "takes profits away from regular investors and ... reduces the overall profit of the system." Wellman suggests that it might be in the nation's best interest "to move to a system where all trades happen at discrete points in time — say once per second — rather than continuously."

Google Continues to Lead the Way
Another project from Google's lab X is being tested in Tekapo, New Zealand. Google plans to launch balloons 12 miles high into the stratosphere that will help to bring the Internet to 4.8 billion people currently not connected.
